What’s the difference between the Expedition and Vistadome Train?

The difference between the booking levels Bronze, Silver and Gold is the train service. There are two types of trains. We recommend the Silver tour, because you will travel one way with the Vistadome (1st Class) Train Service, the wagons are surrounded entirely by glass and panoramic windows which allows you to have an incredible view and take amazing  pictures. And one way you will travel with the the Expedition (Backpacker) 2ndclass Train Service. The main differences in the Vistadome train are: more comfortable seats, more panoramic vieuw and a more luxures snack and beverage.

What do I need to bring on the tour Machu Picchu?

A small or medium size backpack, better no trollies or suitcases, with light clothes, because Machu Picchu is located at the border of the jungle and it´s not that cold as in Cusco. The best is layers of clothing for the moments that it gets a bit chilly, in the morning and evening. Wear confortable shoes, light hiking shoes or good sport shoes, specialy if you have booked one of the extra hikes of Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Machu Picchu is quit rocky and has a lot of stairs. The following items are recommended:

  • Rain Jacket or platic Poncho, or
  • 1 jacket (of nylon with hood and water and wind resistant)
  • 1 Fleece Jacket
  • 1 sun hat and sunglasses
  • Swin wear if you like to visit the Hot Springs
  • Personal medications and toiletries in small containers
  • Sunscreen for your skin and lips
  • Insect repellant
  • Camera
  • Binoculars
  • Extra snacks (energy bards, chocolate, sweets, sandwish, etc)

What is the difference between the Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu Mountain?

The Huayna Picchu is a more adventurous hike, with some very steep parts and cliffside paths. It takes about 1 hour to get to the top of the Huayna Picchu Mountain. The Machu Picchu Mountian hike is less intensive, but is a longer trail, it takes about 1,5 hour to get to the top. The trail is slight uphill with rocky Inca stairs. From both Mountains you will enjoy a breathtaking vieuw over Machu Picchu and its surroundings.

Is one of the extra hikes Huayna or Machu Picchu Mountain included in the tours?

Neither of the extra Mountain hikes are included in the Machu Picchu tours. Please ask you travel advisor about the fees.

Can I find ATM in Aguas Calientes?

In the town Aguas Calientes you can find a ATM, but up in Machu Picchu there are no ATM´s. The best is to have enough soles (local currency) with you and your Credit Card just in case.

Can I pay with Credit Card in Machu Picchu?

Yes, in most restaurants you can pay with Credit Card. As well in the snack bar of Machu Picchu. But the best is to have enough soles (local currency) with you, and your Credit Card just in case.

Are the bus tickets in Machu Picchu tours included?

Yes, with all the Machu Picchu tours the bus tickets to get to the entrance of Machu Picchu roundtrip are included.

How do I recognize the staff members in Aguas Calientes?

Our staff members in Aguas Calientes will have your name on a sign or a green flag with our company logo.

Is pick up from home stay or hotel included?

With the Machu Picchu Full day and all the treks, the pick up from your home stay or hotel is included. With the Machu Picchu Overnight tour, the meeting point is at our office. The drop off is included in every tour or trek.

Do I need to bring dollars or the local currency nuevos soles?

Recommended is the local currency Nuevos Soles.

What is the customs of tipping?

Tipping is completly opcional. If you feel you had a good service and you like to tip the guide, he or she will really appreciate it. In restaurants there is usually already a gratuity included in the bill.
